Astroart

Astroart is the alternative to Maxim DL, providing image capture for any and all CCDs, focus, guiding and image processing. The release of AA3 this year has marked the start of a real drive to become competitive against Maxim DL, whilst remaining at a cost advantage. Astroart is an open system, permitting the addition of functionality by anyone with a programming bent, and this greatly enhances the breadth of the programme.

Its only downside is the lack of a good overall manual in the basic package. However latest releases of the key interfaces have been accompanied by excellent documentation. There are many users who have written their own manuals on the web and on the Yahoo group dedicated to AA and Starlight Xpress cameras. Indeed many Starlight Xpress camera users seem to prefer AA3 against Maxim DL, and the company manufacturing SX cameras works closely with the AA authors, issuing amendments in days over the web.
