Polar Finder | | Description: | A simple application to aid in finding the exact North Celestial Pole by reference to the Polaris star*. Computes UT from System time and settings.
Copes with Daylight Savings Time. Up to Six Charts for an observing session. Prints clear diagrams. Copy to Clipboard. Save BMP. User Longitude. Auto Updates Live.
*For many situations, Polaris lies close enough to the true NCP to provide a good feature to align a tracking mount to. However, Polaris lies about a degree from the NCP, and so tracking mounts aligned to Polaris will not be properly aligned with the axis of rotation of the Earth. Aligning to Polaris means that long duration or high magnification photo exposures will yeild star trails... | | | Version: | 2.04 | | Filesize: | 48.83 Kb | | Added on: | 09-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 1164 | | Category: | Windows / Telescopes - Guiding, ATM & Optics | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
Newton application | | Description: | «Appropriated for Newtonian telescopes basic optical parameters computing. After inputting the values (primary mirror diameter, primary mirror focal length, vignettation free view and distance of the telescope focus and optical axis) enables the computing of a telescope resolution, limiting visual magnitude, minimal and maximal useful amplification power, dimension of a small axis of the secondary mirror, dimension of a big axis of the secondary mirror, offset of secondary mirror optical axis and the telescope optical axis, central shade of the primary mirror considering his diameter, central shade of the primary mirror considering his area and deepen a middle of the primary mirror.»

Aberrator | | Description: | Generates images that show the effects of several types of aberrations (distortions) that influence the quality of a telescope's performance. You basically input the values of a given amount of parameters and the program simulates eight tests, which produce images depicting the effect: startest; intra/extra focal; planet; animation; chromatic; PSF/MTF; turbulence; and aperture.

ASCOM Plataform | | Description: | Group of drivers for most computerized telescopes, domes and focusers.
They have created a standard for all this Tools of observation. Actually most of the free and non - free software planetariums that allow control a telescope use this software.
A list of supported devices and controllers may be found here:
http://ascom-standards.org/drivers.html
The Ascom Platform project allows the use of «dll» libraries for programmers to use in scripting, under Unix, Mac and Windows.
«ASCOM Initiative Mission Statement (goals)
1. Establish a set of interface standards for scriptable or programmable low level control of astronomical instruments and related devices, and promote the use of these standard drivers from astronomy- related software applications.
2. Provide a freely available set of instrument drivers that implement the standards established in (1). These drivers must be usable apart from any particular application, and directly from Windows Active Script languages and Automation based tools.
3. Promote (but not absolutely require) open-source implementations of the drivers in (2).
4. Promote scriptability of astronomy-related software without standardizing application level interfaces (which would inhibit innovation). ASCOM does provide general requirements for quality and behavior of application scripting interfaces (including drivers), aimed at making end-user script writers' experiences consistent and robust.»

Network Telescope Control | | Description: | NTC can be used in two modes; local mode and network mode. In local mode NTC can be used to control a telescope that is connected to a host computer. In network mode NTC allows a client computer to control a telescope remotely over a network, either a LAN or the Internet.
At present NTC can only slew a telescope and control the focus. We are developing GOTO functions that will allow you to select a visible object and GOTO it. We are also developing a video streaming control that will allow remote viewing of a camera attached to a telescope. | | | Version: | 0.1.2 | | Filesize: | 823 bytes | | Added on: | 27-Dec-2004 | | Downloads: | 719 | | Category: | Windows / Telescopes - Guiding, ATM & Optics | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
