The Solar System Discovery Kit | | Description: | As well as helping novice astronomers with identifying the planets and moons, an observer of the Solar System Discovery Kit can see the shape of the orbits of the planets, and it demonstrates some of the patterns that emerge from orbital motion.
Eccentricities become observable when time is controlled and the affect of a highly inclined axis like that of Uranus become very apparent when its year is reduced to a few seconds. Planets etch out epicycles in the sky when viewed from other bodies. The sim will demonstrate this process when you watch, for example, Mars from the Earth system.
Note: Requires DirectX 8.1 or later.

SpeedSolar | | Description: | SpeedSolar is a small program that eases the understanding of different aspects of the universe and makes it possible to do a few experiments/calculations around the Lorenz Theory, with surprising results.
Features include: calculating the time difference according to speed (the faster we go the slower we grow older); calculation of the distance of thunders based on the time difference between light and sound; conversion of light years in kilometers; comparison of the speed of light with one's own speed. | | | Version: | 2.0 | | Filesize: | 1.19 MB | | Added on: | 08-Sep-2003 | | Downloads: | 316 | | Category: | Windows / Educational | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
Solstice | | Description: | The aim of this program is both to allow students to acquire basic notions of mechanics and to introduce the study of orbitography at high-school level.
Solsciste includes two distinct modules:
Orbitography is mainly intended to offer the possibility of representing the paths of the satellites over the Earth's surface (both in 2D and 3D). In accordance with obvious pedagogical purposes, simplified «keplerian» models were introduced assuming: the spherical symmetry of the Earth and the homogenous repartition of its mass; that satellites are only submitted to the Earth's attraction force.
Satellites that can be studied include really existent ones (such as GPS and telecommunication satellites) or fictional satellites created by the user, by introducing their orbital elements.
Simulation of a launch offers the possibility of graphically representing the evolution of the values of a wide number of physical parameters (altitude, speed, mass, friction) just from the launching phase of a rocket (such as an Ariane 5) up until the deployment in space of it's load.
In «manual» mode, the user is allowed to virtually manoeuvre the orientation controls of the rocket and, in accordance, observe the effects on the several different parameters.
The program is useful for any person interested, but, for pedagogical purposes, particularly to classes of Physics and for the study of subjects such as the Centre of Inertia Theorem, the gravitational interaction, the forces of friction, Kepler's Laws, and the movement of solid bodies submitted to a central force, the movement of satellites etc...

Solar System | | Description: | Plots the gravitational behaviour of celestial bodies, allowing the user to construct new models by feeding his own values.
It comes with a few pre-programmed models. For instance, what would happen if a new planet, lost in space, was to approach our solar system? Or, how would behave a binary system, in which each star was orbited by a planet? Solar System allows you to visualize the effect. | | | Version: | 1.0 | | Filesize: | 397.00 Kb | | Added on: | 03-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 484 | | Category: | Windows / Educational | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
