Satscape | | Description: | «Produces real-time displays of where any Satellite is, and predicts passes for your locale. You don't have to use or have access to the satellites, as it will even predict when the 150 'Brightest' satellites pass over, so you can SEE them.
It can currently track 500 satellites simultaneously, with various graphically rich Map Views with ground tracks and footprints, Horizon view, tabular list and more. It?s highly graphical, and has optional speech to announce satellites as they come into range. Tracking Data known as "Keplerian Elements" are used to work out their positions. Updating the Keplerian elements couldn't be easier, just one click from the menu, and it will connect via your Internet connection, and update them.» | | | Version: | 2.02 | | Filesize: | 5.91 MB | | Added on: | 08-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 1549 | | Rating: | 8.0 (5 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / Satellites | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (2)
SatSpy | | Description: | Surely, and by far, the best of the satellite tracking programs presented here. We will not even try to describe it, since its great.
The only problem is that it only allows a 30 day evaluation. After that it stops functioning
Note: This program is no longer under development.

Features include: NORAD SGP4/SDP4 prediction models; 2000 satellites can be loaded from TLE file(s) (auto: PC/Unix, 2/3 line); ALL of them can be tracked at the same time; full screen mode; supported screen resolutions from 640x480; Real-time mode / Simulation mode (free time control); advanced passes & Iridium flares search engine; miscellaneous options of visualisation; orbit info; notes for each object; radar; easy interface; database of cities around the world; PC clock synchronization via NTP; Internet TLE updater (with ZIP support) / HTTP; Windows screen saver included; and more...» | | | Version: | 3.12 | | Filesize: | 1.91 MB | | Added on: | 03-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 1249 | | Rating: | 8.6 (7 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / Satellites | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (6)
Sat_Explorer | | Description: | Software for satellite users. It provides visibility forecasts as a waiting delay and a visibility duration very quickly and all the time.
Ten (and even more) satellites can be monitored simultaneously.
The program is written to be run as a background task while you are running other programs in your PC or doing odd jobs.
If you specify it, when a satellite is approaching, a sound alarm will be sent. The program will be restored on screen if it was reduced in the task bar and the name of the approaching satellite will blink yellow for a quick view.
As soon as a satellite is visible, the name of the satellite blinks green; an alarm is optionally sent and the program window is restored on screen if it was reduced in the task bar.
When a satellite disappears, its next visibility is immediately computed and monitoring restarts for this new visibility.
For each of the monitored satellites, SAT_EXPLORER provides a detailed description of the next or current visibility, minute by minute: elevation, azimuth, range, altitude, position, phase and Doppler shift. You can choose to monitor a further visibility if the next one is unusable because of a too low or to short visibility.
Useful mostly to radio amateurs. | | | Version: | 2.5.2 | | Filesize: | 1.44 MB | | Added on: | 09-Mar-2004 | | Downloads: | 887 | | Category: | Windows / Satellites | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
GPS | | Description: | Great graphics if you just want to see how satellites orbit the Earth and watch things from "up there", but it misses a few basic functions for ground pass predictions.
The program offers four different views: 3D-Orthogonal View (the Earth is displayed as a sphere and the satellites orbit it); 2D-Equidistance Mercator View (the complete Earth's surface is displayed and the satellites are shown as icons); WDB-Equidistance Mercator View (it is possible to zoom into it and display just parts of the world's surface with geopolitical details); and Observer's view (useful if you want to know where you have to look to see a satellite). Each of this views offers a bunch of moving around features.
Notice that you can use this program not only for the GPS-satellites but for all other satellites as well, since it uses the standard NORAD two line elements files.
We found it rather prone to crashing.
New in version 2.4 is the Weather dialog and the Internet dialog. Check them out. I did also some major internal restructuring on the graphics engine so that you can now use JPEG, GIF, EMF, WMF, TIFF, PCX, and BMP as Textures.
The program needs Windows NT/95, the OpenGL DLL's and a color depth of at least 16 bit (65535 colors).
Download options are very flexible. We have chosen the one which includes the more features (meaning also the larger in size). Additionaly, you may also need to get a few OpenGL drivers (we did not) - if so, see the help files to know details about the source. | | | Version: | 2.4 | | Filesize: | 13.97 MB | | Added on: | 03-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 858 | | Category: | Windows / Satellites | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details

Element Manager | | Description: | Designed to manipulate NASA/NORAD "two line elements". Files containing 2 line elements will be imported regardless of accompanying text. Saved element sets will be stripped of all extra text only saving the 2 line elements themselves. Many satellite tracking programs have the capability to do this to some extent but Element Manager was created to give you total control over your element files.
It can extract elements from practically any DOS Text file (UNIX files will be detected and a "fix" routine will ask for permission to convert to DOS format). You can drag an element file from the Desktop. You can open your web browser or email program or any text source of elements and cut and paste elements from those sources to the program.
Element Manager can manipulate elements in a number of ways. Selections to limit the number of active satellites based on the age, decay, inclination, eccentricity, mean motion, apogee, perigee, argument of perigee, right ascension of ascending node, International Launch Designation, common name, visual magnitude and radar cross section are possible
The program can make selections or exclusions by NORAD number. You can create multiple select files containing lists of satellites you are either interested in or wish to ignore.
From the View Menu (one of six) , you can select five additional displays:
. The Statistics Screen displays a statistical breakdown on the entire group of active element. Some rudimentary graphing of various parameters is available here too.
. The Archive Analysis screen will display graphs showing trends in satellite archives. (Archives are single files containing multiple element sets for an individual satellite). So, you can watch the apogee of a satellite lower in altitude over time for a particular satellite.
. The Tracking View displays a world map showing the orbit of the satellite and its current location.
. The Orbital View displays a graphic representation of the orbit along with all of the element set data and some additional derived data. The current position of the satellite can be displayed along the ellipse of the orbit, IF the tracking screen is active too.
. The Two Line File selection opens a view of what a two line file would look like if you Saved your active satellites. In addition, the age, perigee and apogee for each element set is displayed. | | | Version: | 1.5.9 | | Filesize: | 2.68 MB | | Added on: | 14-Sep-2003 | | Downloads: | 797 | | Category: | Windows / Satellites | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
AstroSat32 | | Description: | The program computes star maps with 15639 stars (to mag. 7,0), with 50 star clusters and nebulas visible with the naked eye, the five brightens planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn), the moon and the sun, a comet and up to 10000 earth satellites.
This is the Windows version, there is also a DOS version available. | | | Version: | 4.1.0 | | Filesize: | 623.39 Kb | | Added on: | 08-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 766 | | Rating: | 8.0 (1 Vote) | | Category: | Windows / Satellites | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (1)
