TSOL - The Simple Observing Log | | Description: | The Simple Observing Log (TSOL) is intended as a place where you can keep track of all your star-gazing information.
You may fill out forms for all the objects you intend to view in a session, then use the forms to keep track of your sucess, or you may observe as you always have, and record your observations during or after your session. After you're done, you can view and print your observing records sorted by date or by object.
There's even a space where you can sketch your observations on the page, or place scans of your sketches after you're done. An "astrophoto" section for each observation lets astrophotographers keep track of their exposures as well.
When you want to use TSOL in the field, simply choose "Nightvision Mode" to switch to a vision-saving red display!
This is the Windows version. Mac and Palm OS versions are also available.

ScopeDriver | | Description: | A planning, logging, and control interface for your astronomical telescope, designed with elegant simplicity.
It allows you to connect your computer to one of the following astronomical telescopes:
Meade Autostar with RS-232 serial port
Meade LX200 (including LX200 GPS)
Losmandy Gemini Level 1 or Level 3
Telescope compatible with Autostar, LX200 or Gemini command set
At this time, ScopeDriver does not support Celestron instruments.
A Find Object Window finds tens of thousands of sky objects by Common Name, Bayer/Flamsteed designation, Constellation, and more; Observing List support enables you to define an unlimited number of observing lists, and access recently-viewed lists with a single click; integrated, searchable Observing Log features customizable text file import and export options. Also included is a handy interface for adding orbiting bodies (such as comets and asteroids) as well as fixed sky objects and a night vision mode.
This the Windows version. A Mac version is also available. | | | Version: | 2.0.2 | | Filesize: | 5.25 MB | | Added on: | 05-Mar-2004 | | Downloads: | 398 | | Category: | Windows / Logging & Planning | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
POSDAT | | Description: | Database for object positions on planets and the Sun. Includes an ephemeris tool.
NOTE: This program has been merged with the former «Planetary Ephemerides» in the new WinJUPOS! | | | Version: | 7.021 | | Filesize: | 1.62 MB | | Added on: | 18-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 437 | | Category: | Windows / Logging & Planning | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
NGic | | Description: | Basically this is a planning tool for GoTo telescope owners. You can perform a search for the objects visible for a given period of time either by constellation, catalogue number, coordinates and or sky area.
You can also edit the profile of your local horizon, apply filters to the objects and create your own lists of topics of interest.
Menu and functions integration have been well achieved. The only drawback seems to be the likeability of the requirement to install a few visual basic related files for it to run properly (see the homepage for details). | | | Version: | 3 | | Filesize: | 881.34 Kb | | Added on: | 26-Oct-2003 | | Downloads: | 339 | | Category: | Windows / Logging & Planning | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details

NGC 2000 Observer | | Description: | A useful program which lists the celestial objects from the NGC 2000, IC and Messier catalogues visible from a given location at a given moment. The results can be filtered by defining parameters such as the magnitude range they must fall into, the dimension, the minimum altitude above the horizon and the direction in azimuthal coordinates (by defining a «horizon window», from x to y degrees, including also an option to list objects visible within 30 degrees from the Zenith) they must appear. The search can be performed either by all objects from a chosen catalogue or for the observing conditions of a particular one, by number or common name.
The program computes the data of the object positions using algorithms programmed by the author. For the calculation of the true obliquity of the ecliptic and of the nutation effect the periodical elements from the «1980 IAU Theory of Nutation» are used. The equatorial coordinates of the objects are those from the J2000.0 and were obtained from the NGC 2000.0 (Sky Publishing, ed. Sinnott 1988). The apparent coordinates at time of observation are calculated taking into account the precession effect and corrections in R.A and Dec. due to nutation and annual aberration valid for the coordinates based on the FK5 system. The annual parallax effect is not taken into account since the distance of the objects to the solar system is too large.
The results can be salved to a .txt file. Includes extensive help files, namely to understand the descriptive data from the catalogues. | | | Version: | 1.02 | | Filesize: | 2.75 MB | | Added on: | 21-Aug-2005 | | Downloads: | 685 | | Rating: | 1.0 (1 Vote) | | Category: | Windows / Logging & Planning | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (1)
